The CIT tournament was restarted after the covid-19 pandemic
The 2024 CIT was a postseason single-elimination tournament featuring NCAA Division I basketball teams. Notably, this was the first CIT contested since 2019, as the 2020 and 2021 CITs were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, the CIT was re-launched and rebranded as The Basketball Classic. However, neither The Basketball Classic nor the CIT took place in 2023.
For the 2023–24 postseason, CollegeInsider.com announced that the CIT would be revived in a 16-team pod-based format.
